Surrounded by the rich Volcano rainforest, Apapane Cottage (pronounced Ah-Pah-Pah-Nay) is a single, private getaway. For those who enjoy the environment of a naturally landscaped rainforest enhanced by water ponds with koi and other fish, this is the ideal retreat. Stroll amongst the giant hapu'u tree ferns, listen to the native songbirds in the red-blossomed 'ohi'a lehua trees, see an endangered Hawaiian hawk soar overhead.
Designed and built by a fine woodworker, the cozy cottage features artistic attention to detail. The many windows plus the skylights in the high-beamed ceiling bring nature indoors. The comfortable queen bed and living area furniture invite you to relax in your forest home away from home.
The house is warmed by a thermostatically controlled propane fireplace and cooled by nature. A large slate bathroom has a double shower with skylight and huge window looking into the forest. The unique wood floors throughout the cottage are 'ohi'a, Volcano's most familiar tree. Their lehua blossoms are the main nectar source for the brilliant red Apapane honeycreeper, our most gifted songbird.
Our 475-square-foot cottage offers a fully-equipped kitchen and dining area plus living room and
bedroom space. There is a flat screen monitor and a DVD library, plus WiFi and an iPod dock.
A slate lanai (patio) has a table and chairs for outdoor relaxing with nature. The lanai posts
are made from the 'ohi'a trees that were felled in order to build the cottage.
Your private lanai overlooks the gardens and grounds including a tall stand of bamboo, magnificent tree ferns, and
koi ponds. Steps from the private entrance lead to paths around the property and private parking area.

Rates are $140 per night + hawaii taxes, with a 2 night minimum stay, single or double adult occupancy, no children under 16yrs.

After a long day's hiking, relax in the perfect environment - a luscious, self contained studio surrounded by Hapu'u tree ferns, bamboo, and towering Ohia. The Hiker's Retreat is a comfortable space combining a queen size bed, a gas stove fireplace, a reading and dining area, and large private shower - perfect for a single hiker or traveling couple.
The studio has vaulted ceilings and skylights - no need to feel closed in after hiking the forests and trails! The bathroom and shower have beautiful slate tiles, and the main living area has Ohia hard wood floors, with artistic attention to details.
Amenities include a library of reading materials, WiFi, dvd player and flat screen monitor, selection of coffees and teas, and while there are no cooking facilities, there is a small fridge, microwave, and electric kettle.
